In October 2021, the Northern Nevada IEC chapter was established. Five electrical contractors saw the value the IEC would bring to the Carson City region and the electrical industry. Northern Nevada IEC supports electrical, low voltage, and renewable energy electrical and systems contracting companies.

Founded in 1957, the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) is a national trade association for merit shop electrical contractors. IEC has over 50 local chapters across the country which represent over 3,600 member companies and trains over 14,000 trainees each year.
